NEW YORK (AP) - President Barack Obama says some Wall Street firms are ignoring the lessons of the Lehman Brothers collapse. He warns that they risk not only their futures, but the country's future as well. On the first anniversary of Lehman's collapse, Obama went to Wall Street to press for financial system changes he says will prevent another global economic crisis.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate health care negotiators say they have cut the cost of their 10-year coverage plan to under $880 billion. But they're not shaking hands yet on a bipartisan deal. Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus says he'll have a formal proposal by midweek. Whether or not there's a bipartisan deal, the Finance panel will start considering legislation next week.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Police in New Haven, Conn., are trying to ease fears about student safety on the Yale University campus. They say the Yale graduate student who's believed to have been killed in her lab building and left behind a wall there was probably not the victim of a random act. Police found the body yesterday on what was supposed to have been the woman's wedding day.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A man suspected of robbing 14 banks in six states has told a federal judge in Missouri that he wants to return to Tennessee to face charges there. Chad Schaffner appeared in federal court today, two days after he was arrested at a motel in Missouri. A former highway patrol trooper recognized Schaffner after seeing a news report about a bank robbery in Illinois.

NEW YORK (AP) - Serena Williams has issued a second statement to "sincerely apologize" for what she calls her "inappropriate outburst" at the U.S. Open. Williams says she wants to apologize to the lineswoman, opponent Kim Clijsters (KLY'-sturz), the U.S. Tennis Association and tennis fans. Her tirade against a lineswoman on Saturday cost her a point that decided the semifinal match -- and a $10,000 fine. She and sister Venus play in the women's doubles final later today.
