Newton County teacher killed in diving accident

A Newton County educator has died in a diving accident in the Caribbean.
Michael Freer, 55, of Orange, a chemistry teacher at Deweyville High School, died July 2 in the waters off the coast of the small Caribbean island of Aruba, officials told KJAS News.
Freer was a Lamar University graduate and former longtime employee at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
