NEWTON COUNTY - by Steve Stewart - A Louisiana man is dead, and a Brookeland man has been injured following an overnight accident in Newton County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the accident occurred at 2:25 Friday morning on Farm-to-Market Road 1414, about 7 miles south of Burkeville.

Trooper Travis Richnow investigated the crash, his report said a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by 22-year-old Terry Bozeman of Many, Louisiana, was southbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and rolled over. Bozeman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck and died at the scene. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Jimmy Hopson.

Meanwhile, the passenger in the truck, 37-year-old James Frederick May, Jr., is undergoing treatment at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The report said May was wearing his seatbelt.
