The Little Cypress-Mauriceville debate squad captured their first Texas Forensics Association points of the year this past Sat. October 31 at West Orange-Stark high school.
In Lincoln-Douglas (LD) debate, sophomore Alicia Hubbard; seniors Brandon Boze and Steven Perry all advanced to the quarterfinal round. Perry went on to finals and earned six points toward the TFA state tournament.
The Cross-Examination debate teams of seniors Aaron Kitchens and Justin Hargraves; and seniors Christian Neal and James English, also competed and advanced to the quarterfinal rounds, however they did not break into semi-finals.
The entire squad also competed in the extemporaneous speaking event. In the domestic extemp. (DX) category; Perry, Boze, and junior Patrick Taggart all advanced into the semi-final round. Perry took his second win of the night and earned another six points toward the state tournament.
Perry also earned top speaker award of the entire tournament and four more TFA points. He is two points away in both DX and LD from qualifying for the state tournament in early March.
