Former police chief arrested for theft
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Lafayette Parish Sheriff's deputies have arrested Duson's former police chief on two counts of malfeasance and one count each of felony and misdemeanor theft. Lt. Craig Stansbury, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office, told The Advertiser of Lafayette that 52-year-old Joseph L. Johnfore was arrested Wednesday following a monthslong investigation. Stansbury said the investigation arose from improprieties found during an audit of the Duson Police Department that reported $5,100 in missing traffic fines. The audit found no record of payment for $3,500 in tickets issued by Duson police in 2008 and $1,600 in 2009. The department had records of the tickets but lacked the money. Johnfore, who was an elected police chief, resigned in June. --- Information from: The Advertiser,
