Funeral set for cab driver killed by man charged with driving drunk

Funeral arrangements are set for a taxi driver killed by a man charged with driving drunk and colliding with his cab.

64-year-old Patrick Pratt died after a man police say was driving drunk, crashed into his taxi at Phelan and 23rd in Beaumont. The vehicles collided at about 7 a.m. on Sunday, February 28. Pratt died during the evening of Monday, March 1 with his family surrounding his bedside at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth.

Police arrested James Robert White, 44, of Buna, on a charge of intoxication assault. Officers say he was speeding, ran a red light and crashed into the taxi.

The charge against White could be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter because of Pratt's death.

Pratt's funeral service is Monday at 10 a.m. at Claybar Kelly Watkins on 11th Street in Beaumont.

Visitation is Sunday from 4-7 p.m., also at Claybar Kelly Watkins on 11th Street in Beaumont.

A memorial account has been set up in Pratt's honor. You can donate at any Capital One Bank.
