Update: Inmate Killed in Stabbing That Injured Two Federal Prison Officers

KFDM News tonight has received new information about a violent attack on two correctional officers and an inmate at the federal prison in Beaumont.

According to a spokesperson for the warden, two inmates attacked two correctional officers.. and another inmate in the special housing unit of the High Security Facility about 2:30 this afternoon.

One correctional officer remains in a Beaumont hospital tonight.. the other has been treated and released. The inmate who was identified as Gabriel N. Rhone was pronounced dead from his injuries about 4:15 this afternoon.

Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson ordered an autopsy on the inmate late this afternoon. The prison's public information officer tells KFDM the names of the injured officers are not being released. Spokesperson Sheria Hill says at no time was the community in jeopardy.

The FBI tells KFDM tonight the agency is investigating the attack.

At approximately 2:38 p.m., on November 28, 2007, two staff members and an inmate were assaulted in the Special Housing Unit, in the High Security Facility, at FCC Beaumont by two other inmates. The injured staff and the inmate were transported to a hospital. The inmate was pronounced dead at approximately 4:15 p.m., as a result of his injuries. One staff member was treated and released and the other remains hospitalized. The names of the staff members are not being released at this time. No other staff or inmates were injured and at no time was the community in jeopardy. The FBI was notified and an investigation into the incident has begun.
