Lunch Program Serves Hundreds of Children in Hardin County

July 2, 2008 - 8:46 PM

Many children benefit from free or reduced price lunches during the school year, and their hunger doesn't go away during summer vacation.

A program in Hardin County is filling the void.

Federal dollars are paying for about three hundred children up to 18 years old to receive summer meals.

They're served at six sites, including Prince Hall Villa apartments in Silsbee.

Rev. Mark Smith helps oversee the program. He tells us it's been around for 16 years, serving meals to an estimated half million children.
