It's a record that's never been accomplished before.... riding a bicycle 33-hundred miles in 33 days.
By doing so... six Southeast Texans hope to break a world record but that's not their main goal.
Six Southeast Texas cyclists got to thank Beaumont in person for supporting their mission. Today, they're joined by 45 other Southeast Texans for encouragement as they make the half way point in their journey. They're biking across the USA raising money for the fight against cancer.
"It's just been an eye opening experience for me to realize how many people have been affected by this," said Britt Gober.
43 year old Britt Gober is one of the six cyclists biking from San Diego, California to Washington D.C. Gober's riding in memory of a good friend who died from cancer 20 years ago and his Uncle who was diagnosed with cancer 6 months ago.
"We realized everyone knows somebody or has somebody that's going through cancer or has been through cancer or gone through chemotherapy," said Britt Gober.
The men have biked through the heat, the wind and the rain, the desert and the mountains. When the ride gets tough the cyclists bond together and encourage each other to ride on and remember the lives they are touching.
"We all know about it and we know the problems but these people are talking about the solutions," said Guy Goodson.
Solutions that are accomplished by support. Support from families, friends and communities. The support comes from donations made on-line.
"This is amazing, we've met a lot of towns, a lot of Mayors, we've had send offs, ride outs but nothing like this and it makes us proud to be from Beaumont. So thank you for supporting us," said Joe Haeggquist.
A project of six months' planning will be accomplished in 33 days ... as these six Southeast Texans use pedal power to raise money for the fight against cancer.
Tonight, there will be entertainment at Easy's for the cyclists and the public.
The team will leave tomorrow morning as they head to the nation's capital.
The cyclists have only completed four percent of their 200- thousand dollar goal. if you would like to donate to the livestrong foundation, just log onto www.livestrongacrossamerica.com
