Assistant Principal Indicted on Charges of Sexual Assault, Improper Relationship

The Orange County Grand Jury has indicted a Vidor High School Assistant Principal for sexaul assault and an improper relationship between educator and student.

District Attorney John Kimbrough says 33 year old Danny Ray Reynolds, Junoir of Vidor is accused of having a sexual relationship with an underage student that lasted from November of 2005 to January of 2008.

He's charged with two counts of sexual assualt and two counts of an improper relationship between educator and student.

Both offenses are second degree felonies and the punishment ranges from two years probation to 20 years in prison and up to a ten thousand dollar fine.

We tried to get in contact with Reynolds, but he wasn't home.

The District Attorney told us he turned himself in this morning, and was released on ten thousand dollars bond.

According to the Vidor I.S.D. website, Reynolds is the Assistant Prinicpal for juniors and seniors at the campus.

We spoke with his attorney, Larry Hunter, by telephone.

Hunter told us his client is not guilty of what he's been charged with.

He went on to say it's almost impossible for it to have occurred.

A representative from Child Protective Services says it may seem like you're hearing about more cases of educators accused of sexual crimes involving students, but she says it may simply be that more people are reporting the allegations.

"I think our agency and community have done a good job about talking about reporting child abuse and neglect, how important it is to make that call and make that report. So, I believe people are feeling more confident to be able to do that these days than they were 5 or 10 years ago," says Shari Pullium with Child Protective Services.

We tried getting in touch with school board members and the district's police department, but we didn't hear back from anyone.

The district attorney says the case should go to trial before the end of the year.

The Orange County grand jury has indicted an assistant principal at Vidor High School on charges of sexual assault and improper relationship between educator and student, according to Orange County District Attorney John Kimbrough.

  Vidor High School assistant principal Danny Ray Reynolds, Junior, 33, of Vidor, was indicted Wednesday by the grand jury.

  He is accused of having a sexual relationship with an underage student that investigators allege lasted from about November of 2005 until January of 2008.

  Reynolds was indicted on two counts of Sexual Assault and two counts of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student.

  Both offenses are second degree felonies.

  The range of punishment is 2 years probation to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine on each count.

  Reynolds was released on $10,000 bond.

  The case has been assigned to the 128th District Court in Orange County.  No trial date has been set.

  Reynolds has been on paid leave.
