Restaurant Report (8/7)

This week's Restaurant Report Card comes to us from the Beaumont Health Department.

The inspectors found a few problems at a major grocery store, a restaurant with a pest problem, and some cafeteria employees with hygiene-related problems.

#1. KROGER 3845 PHELAN GRADE=73

We begin with the Kroger on Phelan Boulevard. Inspector Lee found dead flies in the deli case, there was debris in the hand sink which could interfere with proper hand washing, more than 50 weevils on shelves with flour, and unattended meat in the meat market. Inspector Lee issued a 73 to Kroger on Phelan Boulevard.

#2. CHURCH'S CHICKEN 249 DOWLEN/NO SCORE

Now to Church's Chicken at 249 Dowlen. Inspector Wilhelm arrived at the restaurant to check out a customer complaint and while there found flies and roaches in the restaurant. No score is issued during a complaint investigation, but the inspector advised the management of what to do to correct the problems.

#3. LUBY'S CAFETERIA 2695 I-10 EAST/GRADE=89

And finally we check out Luby's Cafeteria on I -10 East. Chief Inspector Girard found poor hygienic practices including one manager with no hair net, and another manager with a rather large beard who was not wearing what's referred to as a beard net which is required. There was also an employee with a piercing on her face which could spread germs and possibly even fall into food. Food temperatures and other food related practices were as they should be so the restaurant wound up on the higher end of the scale with an 89.

Other scores include Bryan's 797 with a 90, Papa John's Pizza on Calder with a 90 and Dunkin Donuts on East Lucas with a 97.
