Attorney fighting Bolivar erosion supports filling in Rollover Pass

A Beaumont attorney who has spent many years fighting erosion at Rollover Pass is celebrating a decision by the state.

Alan McNeill and several other people met at his law office Monday in Beaumont to talk about the state's plan to fill in Rollover Pass.

The Texas General Land Office wants to spend several million dollars to fill in the popular fishing spot because of the high maintenance costs and erosion it causes on the Bolivar Peninsula.

Closing Rollover Pass will require a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers, and before that happens, studies would be required.

McNeill says he's getting the champagne ready once the decision is finalized.
