Voluntary Evacuation of Sabine Pass
Comments 0 | Recommend 0NEWS RELEASE FROM CITY OF PORT ARTHUR
After conferring with officials of the National Weather Service Office in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and local Emergency Management officials, Mayor Deloris Prince is recommending a Voluntary Evacuation of the Sabine Pass community. This is based on predictions of a 3 to 5 foot above normal tides as Tropical Storm Edouard makes landfall.
It is estimated at this time that landfall will occur sometime between 7AM and 12PM on Tuesday, August 5. This could possibly cause State Highway 87 to become impassable from Sabine Pass to the intra-coastal canal bridge. Gusty winds and possibly 3 to 5 inches of rain are expected late tonight and throughout the day on Tuesday.
Please be advised that filled sandbags, loose sand and empty bags are available in Sabine Pass at the old Fire Station located at Hwy. 87 and Broadway.
All residents are reminded to put away any patio furniture or items that may be thrown around due to the gusts of wind. Residents should have water, non-perishable foods, batteries, flashlights, first aid kits and any other essential items they may need in case of power outages.
The City of Port Arthur also advises there will be no garbage service on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Garbage and trash pick up will resume on Wednesday, Aug. 6.
