Sabine Pass Resident Monitoring Gustav
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Families in Sabine Pass won't soon forget Hurricane Rita, but this week, many are talking more about Gustav.
The television set inside the Lighthouse Deli and Market in Sabine Pass isn't straying far from the Weather Channel.
Staff and customers are keeping up with Gustav. "What's it gonna do? Is it gonna come our way, is it not," said Lorie Martin.
Lorie Martin works at the deli. At least for now, Gustav has replaced Rita as the talk of the town.
"They're all just wondering," said Martin. Customers are wondering where Gustav will go. In between buying a pizza and paying for
their lunch, they take a few seconds to watch Gustov's path toward the Gulf.
"They watch it in the mornings, they watch it on their breaks when they come in, so we try to keep it on that station at all times, you
know for us, too," said Martin.
"Try to get everybody safe and see what's going on," said Juan Flores.
Juan Flores works for Chicago Bridge and Iron in Sabine Pass. He says CB&I is watching the storm and waiting to see if workers
need to evacuate.
"The waiting kills us," said Captain Arthur Ford. Captain Ford says the hardest part is not knowing what'll
happen. But if the storm heads toward Southeast Texas, the Fire Department will check on families in Sabine Pass and make
sure everyone is evacuating if it's ordered. "We take storms seriously around here," said Captain Ford.
"I just pray to God it doesn't happen like that," said Martin. Lorie Martin and other Sabine Pass residents lived through Rita.
They hope Gustav doesn't get any closer than their television sets.
