Enjoying the 4th of July at the beach
It's been a long journey back to life for the Bolivar Peninsula following Hurricane Ike.
Many people are still rebuilding, but tourists have re-appeared for the holiday weekend.
"We've always liked the water," says Don Stronach.
Don and Marge Stronach love the water, whether it's on the mainland, or the coast.
"We lost a place before at Livingston in 1993, when the water came up," says Stronach.
The Stronach's lost their Gilchrist home last September to Hurricane Ike.
But that's not going to stop them from enjoying the holiday weekend at the water's edge.
"We always come down on the holidays. We try to get with our children; we have 6 grandchildren and 2 daughters," says Stronach.
The Bass family came from Nederland to enjoy a mini-vacation.
"Enjoy, sit here in the lawn chair, maybe just kick it back," says Cameron Bass.
But tossing the ball in the surf with his little brother isn't the only thing Cameron Bass is interested in today.
"Have a nice breeze, suntan, maybe sunburn, look good in front of the ladies," says Bass.
Or if you're looking to cast a line this weekend, the Gilchrist Community Association is hosting a fishing tournament at Rollover Pass.
Rod and reel in hand, these fisherman are relaxing, just like those soaking up the sun on the beach.
"I'm just glad it's not over 100 degree weather right now," says Bass.
So whatever your plans this fourth of July weekend ...
"Stay out here a while, go back, Marge wants to come in the evening and sit out til sunset," says Stronach.
Pull up a chair, and find the perfect spot.
The Gilchrist Community Association is hosting a fishing tournament tomorrow from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M.
Registration begins at 8.
There will be prizes every hour for the biggest catch.
