LOS ANGELES (AP) - As firefighters make progress against the big wildfire north of Los Angeles, investigators are learning more about how it started. A fire official says the blaze was caused by one or more people, but that it's not clear whether it was an accident or arson.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The top Senate Republican negotiator on health care insists that bipartisan talks will continue -- despite White House suggestions that GOP bargainers have not acted in good faith. A spokeswoman for Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa says those accusations are unjustified. She says Grassley and five other senators will hold their scheduled conference call Friday to try to find common ground.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia man who was arrested after he reported finding his family killed in their mobile home has been released from jail -- but a judge has ordered him placed under house arrest with an ankle monitor. Guy Heinze (hynz) Jr. was arrested on drug charges. Police aren't calling him a suspect in the killings, but they're not ruling him out.

TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) - Family members in Libya say the man who was convicted in the 1988 Pan Am 103 bombing over Scotland, and who was released from a Scottish prison on compassionate grounds, has been placed in intensive care after his condition got worse. In Scotland, meanwhile, the parliament is refusing to endorse the government's decision last month to release Abdel Baset al-Megrahi (AHB'-dehl BAH'-seht AH'-lee ahl-meh-GRAH'-hee).

NEW YORK (AP) - There's a change at the anchor desk for one of the network evening news programs. ABC says Charles Gibson is retiring at the end of the year, and that Diane Sawyer will replace him in January as anchor of "World News."
