Port Arthur police say a man injured when a truck driver crashed into a meat market is fighting for his life.

The driver ran into Durham's Meat Market, at the corner of Nederland Avenue and Gilliam Circle, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, November 15.

Police tell KFDM the driver of the Chevy pick-up truck was speeding, lost control, hit a stop sign and a fire hydrant before ramming into the side of the business.

Major Raymond Clark says a 34 year old man was struck in the head by a meat grinder that flew across the meat market when the truck went through the building. Clark says at last report the man was on life support.

Three other customers were treated for minor injuries, as well as the driver and passenger inside the truck. They have all since been released from a hospital.

Clark says police are awaiting toxicology reports to determine if charges will be filed against the driver.

He says the reports could take up to two weeks to get back.
