Officers identify man dead after police shooting

The dead man from last night’s shooting at Parkdale Mall has been identified as Bernardo Martinez 63 years old from Nederland. According to police his family has been notified.

Beaumont Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the parking lot of Parkdale Mall.

Police say they received a call around 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night of a man acting erratic inside the mall.

When police arrived, they say they found the 63-year-old Hispanic man with a knife outside Sears.

They say he approached a crowd with the knife and then turned toward officers.

An officer shot the man.

He later was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police are not releasing any information about the officer involved.

Prayers to the family of the slain man. Parkdale is "THUG-ville"...you wouldn't catch me shopping there at night for nothing. Just another reason WHY more and MORE people are moving OUT of Beaumont !!!

Its hard to second guess officers who were confronted by a belligerent, knife wielding man when they arrived at the mall. Glad no one else was hurt, or worse.

Wow, I was there less than an hour before this happened. While I was in one store, there was an older hispanic guy pushing a shopping cart around and wearing a vest with patches on. He seemed a little on the strange side, like he didn't have both feet in reality, but he didn't seem violent. Wonder if it was the same guy. I mean, two crazy older hispanic guys in one mall at the same time, what are the chances?

If it were Central Mall on the other hand...

Does BPD not have tasers??? It seems like this incident called for that much more than a gun. And the man was sixty something. Can all those big BP officers not do something else? At the very least they could have shot him in the leg.
