Lockdown at Silsbee High School lasts entire day
A threatening phone call prompted officials in Silsbee to lock down the high school.
Students were forced to remain in their first period classes the entire day while authorities searched the school.
Police say the caller claimed there were guns in the school.
Drivers were turned away from Silsbee High school for nearly 7 hours while law enforcement officials searched the school.
"Just knowing that they're watching us and making sure nobody walks in is good," said Megan Parrish; a Silsbee High school Senior.
School officials ended the lockdown about three o'clock this afternoon.
"My whole class was thinking it was a joke and stuff but the fact hat it lasted so long we did get a little nervous," said Parrish.
Parrish was in her first period class all day. The students covered the windows so nobody outside could see inside.
At one point she and her classmates hid in the classroom closet because they were scared by a loud noise.
"We're basically looking at all angles and taking precautionary measures along with the school to determine the kids are safe," said Silsbee Police Chief Dennis Allen.
Chief Allen says there were at least 35 law enforcement officials searching the campus for weapons a caller had reported were in the school.
Allen says there were also two Jefferson County K-9's helping with the search of the school.
"Safety is utmost," said Allen.
And it was clear to those inside and out that every precaution was taken to keep the students and staff safe and secure.
Authorities escorted students to and from the bathroom for rest room breaks.
School officials delivered lunch to the students inside their classrooms.
Officers say anyone accused of making a threat against a school will face criminal charges.
If students were involved they could also be expelled the school.
