Soldier gets life for killing another soldier

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - A Fort Hood soldier has been sentenced to life in prison over the 2009 fatal stabbing of a fellow soldier during a party at a house.

Pfc. Donnie Stevens Jr. was convicted Thursday, during a court-martial, of unpremeditated murder. The case involved the November death of 20-year-old Spc. David Middlebrooks.

The Killeen Daily Herald reported Friday that witnesses testified Middlebrooks hit two women, including one who was pregnant, before he and Stevens fought following a night of drinking.

Stevens also must forfeit all pay and be dishonorably discharged.

Both soldiers in June 2009 returned from duty in Iraq.
