BISD reacts to substitute teacher's arrest on drug charges

A spokeswoman for the Beaumont school district told KFDM News the district has no indication a teacher arrested at his apartment on drug charges was involved in drug dealing at Martin Luther King Junior Middle School.

Clayton Allen, 38, was arrested Monday night at his apartment at 2085 Dowlen Road for possession and delivery of a controlled substance.

Officers say they found drugs, guns and drug paraphernalia in his apartment. Police say the arrest is part of an ongoing investigation and they expect to make more arrests.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is assisting Beaumont Police.

BISD spokeswoman Jessie Haynes told KFDM News the district hired Allen in September as a substitute at MLK Jr Middle School. He monitored students in the SAC program.

The district will remove him from the substitute's list pending the outcome of the investigation. Haynes says if Allen is cleared he can request to be placed back on the list.

"Up until this day we've had no problems with him and no indication he was involved in anything illegal at the school," Haynes told KFDM News. "We'll let due process work and do an investigation to make sure he wasn't doing anything illegal at school.

Haynes said there have been no reports of drugs on the MLK Jr campus this year.

The district received a grant to buy a drug dog and purchased one about a month ago. The district uses the dog for random searches. Haynes said searches inside MLK as well as in the parking lot haven't yielded any drugs.
