Pilot survives East Texas plane crash

MINEOLA, Texas (AP) - The Texas Department of Public Safety says a pilot survived the crash of his small plane and managed to make a phone call for help.

DPS spokesman Tom Vinger says the single-engine plane crashed around 5:30 a.m. Thursday near the Wood County Airport, between Mineola and Quitman (KWIT'-man).

Vinger says the pilot suffered minor injuries. The DPS spokesman had no further details and declined to provide the pilot's name.

Mineola is about 80 miles east of Dallas.
