5 SE Texas school districts rated Exemplary

AUSTIN - 5 Southeast Texas school districts are rated Exemplary, 20 Recognized, 8 Academically Acceptable and one charter academy is rated Academically Unacceptable, according to information released Friday afternoon by the Texas Education Agency.

The ratings are based on TAKS results as well as completion and dropout rates.

Colmesneil ISD, Evadale ISD, Hamshire Fannett ISD, Sabine Pass ISD and Warren ISD are rated Exemplary.

Beaumont ISD is among 20 districts rated Recognized.

Port Arthur ISD is among eight districts rated Academically Acceptable.

The Richard Milburn Academy Charter School in Beaumont is rated Academically Unacceptable.

how is port arthur rated higher than beaumont - just curious - beaumont needs to shape up

Hey thomas, doesn't that just get your goat? All the little towns getting exemplary, and you only getting recognized?
imsaying--- recongnized is a higher rating than academically acceptable. But that doesn't mean Bmt should have the recognized rating.

Port Arthur is not rated higher than Beaumont. BISD is rated as Recognized where as PAISD is rated Academically Acceptable. You should work on your reading comprehension skills.

I would like to see some national rankings, too. I realize that the state ranking system is separate. But realistically, Texas typically doesn't fare very well against other states. So I don't place a lot of confidence in even an exemplary rating. I think our children deserve more. A better quality education. More accountability & greater performance being demanded by us as parents & as a community.

Why must our public schools compare themselves to the state average, which is below the national average is some key areas? Why can't we make a plan to set our standards higher? What is wrong with setting a benchmark outside our own state if another state (ex: Massachusetts) is doing a better job?

Awhile back, that looney tune mouthpiece for Thomas made a big to do about how BISD was gonna be Exemplary. They even made a sign....I wonder who paid for that!? They should have waited for the official results first. Now they look like the doofs they are.
