A truck driver was injured on Tuesday afternoon when he lost control of his big-rig and rolled the truck down an embankment. The accident occurred shortly after 1:00 on State Highway 63 West, about 2 miles inside Angelina County.
According to State Trooper Chad Wilson, 34 year old David Ocon of Huntington was westbound in a 1995 International truck, owned by Dean's Meat Service in Huntington, when he passed another vehicle. Wilson said that when Ocon went back into his lane, he overcorrected and lost control of the truck which veered across the eastbound lanes, went over a guardrail, and then went down a steep embankment and rolled onto its side.
Rescue crews from the Zavalla Volunteer Fire Department spent nearly an hour trying to free Ocon from the crushed cab of the truck. Although a PHI medical helicopter was at the scene, Ocon was transported to a Lufkin area hospital by a Lufkin Fire Department EMS ambulance.
There is no word on Ocon's condition.
