TxDOT to use stimulus money to widen FM 365
Comments 0 | Recommend 0From TxDOT - Port Arthur, TX) The state's transportation agency says it expects to receive the needed funding to widen one of Port Arthur's most heavily traveled highways. The Texas Department of Transportation says it plans to widen the portion of FM 365 between US 69 and West Port Arthur Road (Spur 93) using federal stimulus money, or ARRA funding.
The project is a joint effort by the City of Port Arthur and TxDOT. The news comes at a time when Port Arthur is experiencing growth along FM 365.
"We are so elated to hear that funds are being appropriated for the widening of Hwy 365," said Port Arthur Mayor Delores Prince. "Unfortunately, we have had several major accidents along Hwy 365. This will certainly have a major impact on traffic congestion and allow a free flow of traffic movement."
The approximately $7 million project includes widening the highway from the current two lanes to a five lane highway with a left center turn lane. Work could begin in the late spring of 2010.
The Texas Transportation Commission approved the project August 27 at their monthly commission meeting. Meanwhile, engineers and planners continue to work toward acquiring the needed right-of-way and a railroad agreement with Union Pacific Railroad.
