Students Attend UIL Worskshop
ORANGEFIELD - The UIL Academic season is approaching and teams are getting ready for competitions. Several OHS students attended a UIL workshop at Sam Houston State University to get some tips on how to prepare for the contests.
Mrs. Crosby, Prose and Poetry and One Act Play sponsor said, "It was definitely worth it, because I learned a lot more skills to improve my Prose and Poetry group. The only bad part was the long ride.”
Ms. Crosby said she learned how the Prose and Poetry contestants should stand, hold their book, and dress appropriately for the competition. She got to see previous state Prose and Poetry winners perform and be critiqued by professional judges, which she said helped her out a lot.
Dr. Bradford, Spelling and Vocabulary sponsor agreed, “I wouldn’t have missed it. It’s my first year sponsoring the Spelling UIL group so it was necessary to attend.” Dr. Bradford basically learned what the event is all about, how to help out, and how to coach her students for the actual competition.
Shane Marburger, a senior who has competed in UIL events before, attended the workshop to see what he could learn to help him advance to the regional and state level. Marburger will be competing in all four journalism events this year.
