Woman's body recovered; likely Ike victim

(News Release from Chambers County Sheriff's Office)

As law enforcement officers continue to comb through the debris fields of southern Chambers County, the body of a suspected Hurricane Ike victim was discovered over the weekend.

The badly decomposed body, believed to be that of a female, was discovered in a wooded area east of Hwy 562, about 4 miles north of Smith Point, Texas, in southern Chambers County.

An autopsy, conducted today by the Jefferson County medical examiner, indicated that the victim was a female between 30 and 50 years old, 5'3" to 5'7" tall, with brown to blonde hair.  The victim had upper dentures, and dental work to the lower teeth.  The victim had also undergone a past surgery to the right knee, in which a metal plate and four screws had been inserted to the lower leg, just below the knee.

Clothing found with the body included a green T-shirt, with a design on the front that included the words "House of Blues Orlando", and a pair of green plaid "Joe Boxer" brand boxer shorts.

Chambers County Officials are working with authorities in Galveston County and the Laura Recovery Center to identify the victim.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chambers County Sheriff's Office at 409-267-8318.
