Victim of flash fire at paper mill dies
A man who was burned earlier this week in a flash fire at a paper mill has died
Otis Deon Collier, 41, died Friday afternoon at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, according to his sister, Monica Williams.
Collier received burns to 90 percent of his body Tuesday afternoon at the MeadWestvaco paper mill in Evadale.
Collier's sister told us he was operating a piece of machinery near an area where chemicals are unloaded and a spark caused a flash fire.
He was flown to the Houston hospital and was on a ventilator.
Relatives say he fought hard to survive but they tell KFDM the burns and the resulting fluid buildup were just too much to overcome.
Collier lived in Kirbyville and had worked at the mill for 16 years.
The family thanks everyone who expressed concern and prayed for Otis Collier.
