Exactly how much water's being released from Toledo Bend?
As you know, Toledo Bend Dam is releasing water through 11 gates which will cause flooding along the Sabine River.
Meteorologist James Brown has developed this analogy to put the amount of water being released into layman's terms. Here is his example.
Each gate at Toledo Bend has been opened 4 feet.
The total release of all eleven gates is 4,369,371 cubic feet per second. (4.3 million)
That number translates into 262,162,285 gallons per minute. (262 million)
At that rate, this amount of water could fill 437 Olympic-sized swimming pools every minute.
