Broken well prompts water conservation request

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

A broken water well is prompting the Orange County Water Control & Improvement District No. 1 to ask all of its 4,600 customers to limit water usage until further notice.

A major well is broken and the district is making repairs.

The district serves customers in Vidor and the surrounding area, according to administrative assistant Donna Myers.

Myers knows customers must use water for cooking and drinking.  She says the district is asking families to avoid excessive usage, such as watering lawns or washing cars.

She says the problem with the well was discovered Tuesday night.  The district will bring in someone to inspect the well and determine what parts are needed for repairs.  The district is using its second well to provide water to customers.

The repairs might prompt a boil water notice at some time in the future.  The district will notify customers if that becomes necessary.

If you have any questions call the district office at (409) 769-2669.
