Keyarika Diggles is back in jail - again.
The 26-year-old Jasper woman, who made national news in 2013 after an incident in the Jasper City Jail and later received a $75,000.00 out of court settlement from the City of Jasper, has once again been arrested by Jasper Police, and once again she's accused of theft. However, this time Diggles is facing a felony charge because of her two previous convictions for the same offense.
According to Jasper Police, Diggles is accused of writing a check to a local business on a closed bank account, and she turned herself in on Thursday afternoon after an arrest warrant was issued by Municipal Judge Robert Jackson.
Police say Diggles recently took her car to Stewart Glass on West Gibson Street to have a window replaced, which had allegedly been broken by her boyfriend. According to police, she wrote a check in the amount of $288.95, which Stewart Glass employees soon learned was worthless.
Thursday's arrest is the third for Diggles this month alone. On May 8th she was arrested by Jasper County deputies on charges of driving without a seat belt, and also failure to appear in court on a previous criminal charge.
On May 15th, Diggles was again arrested after police said she was caught trying to steal $31.00 worth of baby formula from the Jasper WalMart store.
While all of this was happening, Diggles has been under a grand jury indictment since March on a felony charge of forgery of a financial instrument.
Diggles came into the spotlight In May of 2013 when security cameras in the Jasper City Jail captured video of two officers roughing her up after she was uncooperative with them. The officers were later terminated, and the city settled a lawsuit filed by Diggles.
