BEAUMONT - From BPD - Beaumont Police are investigating two unrelated shootings that occurred in the late hours of June 12.
The first incident occurred at about 9:02 pm. A 39-year-old man called 911 and said he had just shot a female in the area of Collis @ Avenue A. He told 911 operators that he was currently at a residence in the 1200 block of Harrison Street. Patrol Division Officers quickly responded to both locations. They located a female at the Collis Street location and discovered that she had at least one gunshot wound to her head. She was deceased at the scene. Officers also located the suspect on Harrison Street and took him into custody without further incident. Patrol Officers transported the suspect to the police station where he voluntarily gave a statement to Detectives. After they take the suspect’s statement, Detectives will book him into the county jail for one count of murder, a felony of the first degree.
The second incident occurred at about 9:28 pm in the 5300 block of Margo Lane. Patrol Officers responded to a reported shooting with two victims. When Officers arrived, they found a 43-year-old male and a 25-year-old female deceased in the street. Both victims had possible gunshot wounds. Witnesses told Officers that the female victim was dropping off two children at the residence when a male suspect approached her. The two began to argue and the male victim attempted to intervene. The suspect then produced a handgun and fired multiple shots at the two victims. The suspect then fled in a pickup truck. The below pictured man is a person of interest in this double murder. He is identified as Jose Wilfredo Chinchilla, a 28-year-old Hispanic male resident of Beaumont. His last known address was on Earl Street in Beaumont’s north end. Chinchilla was last seen driving a 2005 Ford F150 pickup bearing Texas license plate AM22629. The truck is green in color with a primer gray driver side door. It may also have a bed cover. If anyone sees this truck or Jose Wilfredo Chinchilla, we urge him or her to call the Beaumont Police Department at 832-1234. Chinchilla is considered armed and dangerous so if you do see him, please do not approach him. Once we locate Chinchilla, he will face a possible charge of capital murder.
We are unable to release the names of the victims until we positively identify them and notify their families. Detectives are still working to determine motives for these senseless murders. While it is still early in the investigation, it does appear that the victims in both of these shootings did have some type of prior relationship with their murderers. Our officers will work diligently to thoroughly investigate these crimes so that we can bring justice for the victims and their families.
