PORT ARTHUR - Port Arthur Police have arrested a man accused of striking an officer with his fist.
The call began when police responded to a report of a man threatening to shoot a woman at B.J.'s Convenience Store, 1201 7th Street, at about 12:30 a.m. Monday.
Officers tried to arrest the man and say he began yelling and struggling with them. They say he struck one of the officers with his fist.
While officers were trying to get control of the man, a large crowd gathered and someone sprayed the officers with a chemical substance.
Police were able to take the suspect into custody. While officers were putting handcuffs on the man, a 45 caliber gun fell from his pocket. The handgun had been stolen.
Police took the man to jail and charged him with Assault on a Public Servant, Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
