BEAUMONT - By Megan Dillard - Summer is moving season and a growing number of southeast Texans are moving into new homes.
According to the National Association of Realtors, families bought nearly 200 homes across southeast Texas in May.
Those numbers are up nearly 60% from last May.
There are dozens of for sale signs in Beaumont's Old Town.
If all goes well for Troy Love there will be one less sign at the corner of Gladys and 10th.
"This will be our spare guest room. You just walk out here to the backyard. Hardwood floors, plenty of living space."
He looked at several homes in person and dozens online before finding this one.
"We wanted our own place and now we have something that's ours that we're paying for, and we're not just renting."
Love says now is the time to buy.
"You never know what the economy is going to do, or where we go from day to day and how we will, with our jobs and situations, but if we don't take the chance now, then when will we?"
"Troy Love just bought this house, and there's one for sale right across the street. One Beaumont realtor says that's a clear sign the housing marking is looking up."
"It's nice when you see someone come together, and this is their dream home, and you walk them through and they're so excited."
Amy Chance has watched the market rise and fall.
She says sales across southeast Texas are up almost 60% from last summer.
"May 2011, we had 19 million in sales. May 2012, those numbers are 30 million."
Chance credits low interest rates...
"They're able to get into home for 3.75 interest or 4% interest."
...and realistic pricing for the rise in sales.
"Sellers have realized that if they want to move up or move out, these are their parameters."
One homeowner's sale...
"This is home sweet home."
...another one's new address.
"When it sinks in is when I have the keys in my hand and I don't have to rely on Amy to open that front door."
Love hopes to move into his new home in about a month.
