JEFFERSON COUNTY - While Harris County Mosquito Control is dealing with that area's second case of West Nile Virus and trying to slow down a mosquito problem it calls severe, the Director of Mosquito Control in Jefferson County says the problem is under control here.

Kevin Sexton told KFDM News his workers did heavy spraying between December and April. About seven inches of rain fell in February and March when the mosquito problem heightened.
"It really dropped off in April," Sexton told KFDM News, "but then picked up with the rains at the end of June."
He says spraying during the past couple of weeks is helping control the mosquitoes.
"It's just spotty now," said Sexton, "nothing heavy."
Workers in trucks are spraying at night and planes are spraying in the downtown Beaumont area and Port Arthur's seawall where fireworks shows are scheduled for July 4.
