VIDOR - From DPS - At approximately 1:30pm, there was an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) crash on Corbet Drive in Vidor, Texas which sent one minor child to the hospital.
According to the 13-year old driver of the ATV, he was operating the 4-wheeler with a ten year old passenger. He stated that he was going around a curve and lost control of the ATV. The driver stated that he was thrown over the front of the 4-wheeler and his passenger was also ejected as the ATV went into a ditch.
The driver of the ATV did not sustain any injuries, but the passenger was flown to Galveston by medical helicopter. At this time, the extent of the passenger’s injuries is not known. Both minor children are from Vidor.
This crash is still under investigation and the names are not being released at this time. After the investigation is complete, a determination will be made whether or not to issue citations.
Texas Law: A person under the age of 14 cannot operate an All Terrain Vehicle unless accompanied by or under the direct supervision of the person’s parent or guardian.
Texas Law: A person may not operate an All Terrain Vehicle on a public roadway, street or highway unless they are crossing a highway or street that is not an Interstate.
Texas Law: A person may not carry a passenger on an All Terrain Vehicle unless the All Terrain Vehicle is designed by the manufacturer to transport a passenger.
