An accident on I-10 west in Orange County sent one person to the hospital by medical helicopter and backed up traffic for hours. One westbound lane of the interstate has since reopened.
It happened about 5pm when a pick-up truck attempted to take the Highway 62 exit off of I-10, struck a concrete construction barrier, went airborne and then was clipped by an 18-wheeler while airborne.
One person was ejected from the pick-up truck and had to be airlifted to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. The identity and condition of the accident victim has not been released.
TXDOT says one lane will remain closed until Noon Wednesday while crews work to repair the concete barrier. The highway 62 exit is closed. Authorities say Highway 12 can be used as an alternate route.
