GROVES - by Scott Lawrence - A man is behind bars in connection with a homicide in Groves.
Police arrested John Mason Broadway, 26, early Tuesday morning in Beaumont.

KFDM News checked with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and learned Broadway was booked into the jail Tuesday morning on a charge of murdering Cody Charles Hokett, 26, of Nederland. A judge is expected to arraign Broadway Wednesday and set bond.

Groves Police began looking for Broadway Monday night following the shooting death of Hokett. He was shot shortly before 10 p.m. Monday at a home in the 31 hundred block of Cleveland in Groves where Broadway lives.
Another man walked up to the home shortly after the shooting and discovered the victim slumped in the doorway, according to Groves Marshal Jeff Wilmore. Wilmore says officers recovered a shotgun believed to be the murder weapon.
Hockett was taken by ambulance to Christus Hospital St. Mary. Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett pronounced him dead and ordered an autopsy. Burnett told KFDM News that according to a preliminary autopsy. Hockett suffered a shotgun wound to the chest. The buckshot exited his back.
Marshal Wilmore says police put out an attempt to locate Broadway's vehicle. Wilmore told KFDM News a Beaumont police officer spotted the vehicle at about 2 a.m. at a car wash at Lucas and Folsom. He arrested Broadway.
