SABINE COUNTY - by Steve Stewart/KJAS - A firefighter was injured while battling a blaze in Brookeland late Tuesday evening. The incident occurred shortly after 9:00 at a residence on Downs Loop, just inside of Sabine County.
The Lake Rayburn and Pineland Fire Departments responded when it was reported that a vacant house was on fire, and a nearby home was threatened.
When firemen arrived, the vacant house was fully engulfed and partially collapsed, so they concentrated their efforts on protecting the other home, and also keeping the flames from spreading into the woods.
Shortly after 10:00, firefighters requested EMS to respond to the scene, and they said that a firemen had a possible broken leg. However, how the injury happened, or the identity of the firemen or what department he represented was not immediately available.
KJAS News will try to gather more information on the injured firefighter on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the cause of the blaze, or who owned the vacant is unknown at this time.
