HARRIS COUNTY - by KHOU-TV and www.khou.com - A woman sleeping in her north Harris County home woke up to find a car on top of her, deputies said early Wednesday.
The crash occurred in the 9200-block of Airline Drive around midnight.
The driver of a red two-door car was traveling south at a high rate of speed when he left the roadway, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy D. Wilkie said the small car bounced off a telephone poll and then a pickup truck before going airborne. The car smashed through the wall of a mobile home and landed on top of a woman sleeping in her bed.
The woman was transported to the hospital after suffering burns from the car, but was otherwise expected to make a full recovery.
The driver of the car was not hurt and even attempted to run away on foot, but witnesses said they held him down until deputies arrived.
Deputies took the man into custody and said he would be tested for possible DWI.
As of 7 a.m., crews were still on the scene working to repair a utility pole that was knocked over during the crash.
