Lamar University honored Maegan Walters of Lumberton and Andrew Bourgeois of Groves with the Plummer Award, recognizing them as the top female and male graduates in Lamar's class of August 2012.
Walters, a graduate of Lumberton High School, is the wife of Alan Walters and daughter of Mary and Larry Stivender. She earned a bachelor of applied arts and sciences, graduating from Lamar with a 4.0 grade-point average.
Bourgeois, the husband of Melissa Cuartas and son of Rhonda and Russell Bourgeois, graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School. He earned dual degrees - a master of science and a bachelor of business administration, both in accounting - while attaining a GPA of 3.718.
President James Simmons presented the awards during commencement ceremonies Saturday, Aug. 18, in the Montagne Center, where state Senator Robert Nichols, R-Jacksonville, a 1968 industrial engineering graduate of Lamar, delivered the commencement address for morning and afternoon ceremonies.
Plummer Awards honor the late Otho Plummer, who was chairman emeritus of the Lamar board of regents and a longtime board member.

Walters expects her first child in December and plans to be a stay-at-home mom. She lists her hobbies as photography, knitting, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

He received the American Legion Award and was a recipient of the Lamar Accounting Department Excellence Fund scholarship, the Dr. Melvin F. Brust Scholarship in Accounting, the S.L.
