JASPER- by Mike Lout
Officers with the Jasper County Sheriff's Department are investigating an apparent murder at a home in the north end of the county.
Sheriff Mitchel Newman said officers were called to the location on County Road 219, in the Lakeland Addition, shortly after 7:00 on Friday evening, when it was reported that the body of the victim had been discovered on the front porch of the residence.
Newman said that it appeared that the deceased, who has not been identified, was beat to death. However, he could not say if a weapon was used.
Newman said that he and others had identified as many as three, and maybe four, different suspects in the case and a short time later Captain Bob Walker said that all four were in custody and that they would be taken to the Jasper County Sheriff's Department for questioning. However, what sparked the incident or a motive for the crime is not known.
The name of the deceased and the names of the possible suspects have not been released as the investigation continues.
County Road 219 and the Lakeland Addition is located just off of Highway 96, about 11 miles north of Jasper.
