JEFFERSON COUNTY - By Megan Dillard - A Southeast Texas man says he never leaves his home without his gun, whether he's teaching a concealed handgun license class or leading his church on Sunday morning.
KFDM met up with a man who calls himself the "pistol packing pastor."
"The more ammo the merrier for me!"
James McAbee likes guns.
So much so, he teaches classes for people who want to carry concealed handguns.
What you might not know about this Beaumont man is that the gun range is not his only classroom.
"The Word of God says in Romans 12:2"
"I teach guns on Saturday and preach the Bible on Sunday."
McAbee pastors the Lighthouse Worship Center off Cardinal Drive.
"Only God is perfect and that protects our heart."
Protection McAbee says is for him and his church family.
"My parishioners at church don't have a problem with it."
He decided to get more involved with guns after two men robbed his church.
"One of them picked up a 2-by-4 that was spiked and was trying to gorge me with it. If it wasn't for the firearm, I believe I probably might not be here today."
"We have to know that the Word is truth."
Both of these church members also own handguns.
"These doors are always open to everyone. The thing about it, I don't condemn our pastor for carrying a gun."
"I don't carry mine to church because I know my pastor is well-capable of taking care of it."
A group that believes their pastor is capable of teaching them about faith..."having the shield of faith and knowing that God is going to take care of us" .. and keeping them safe.
"I've had nobody to shun it, and I've actually had people to come to the church because of coming through my class."
The Lighthouse Worship Center is located off Cardinal Drive near Lamar University.
