SULPHUR, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police say a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 about 3 ½ miles west of Sulphur has claimed the life of a Texas man and sent a Mississippi man to the hospital.
Sgt. James Anderson says 52-year-old Varghese K. Paily of Port Arthur, Texas, was traveling east Monday when he switched from the middle lane to the outside lane to pass an 18-wheeler. Anderson says Paily lost control of his Jeep and the vehicle began to rotate. The Jeep impacted the rear of a pickup driven by 63-year-old Richard D. Schneider of Waveland, Miss., that was parked on the right shoulder.
Both men were taken to a nearby hospital. Paily was pronounced dead. Schneider is being treated for moderate injuries.
