The Hardin County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting death in which a man is accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend's estranged husband after witnesses say the ex-husband forced his way into the woman's home and began choking her, according to information Sheriff Ed Cain provided to KFDM News.
It's the first homicide of the year in Hardin County.

Cain said deputies responded to the shooting at about about 7:45 p.m. Thursday on Pineville Road off Gore Store Road in Village Mills, north of Kountze.
Sheriff Cain told us that according to the preliminary investigation, Troy Marshall, 50, forced his way into his 47-year-old wife's home and began arguing with her and then began choking her. Deputies say Marshall had been drinking.
Cain said the woman's 22-year-old boyfriend retrieved a 40 caliber handgun and fired several shots at Marshall. Marshall died at the scene.
Cain told us no charges have been filed and no arrests have been made while investigators try to determine if it's a case of self-defense.
