A 16-year-old girl walked half a mile for help after she was assaulted and raped in a wooded area northwest of Houston, officials said late Tuesday.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the victim left her home around 11 p.m. after arguing with a family member. She was walking near Cypress Woods High School when the suspect ambushed her.
The man grabbed her, dragged her into a field and beat her with a blunt object. He then sexually assaulted her.
The victim pretended to be dead.
"She doesn’t move, she doesn’t flinch and he does not say a word to her. He stands over her making sure that she was dead," said Harris County Deputy Armando Tamez.
When the suspect left, the victim stumbled to a Cinemark movie theater near Highway 290 and Spring Cypress Road to plead for help. The naked girl was covered in so much blood, witnesses thought she was wearing a red dress.
The security guard at the theater called 911, and the girl was flown to the hospital by helicopter. She was in critical condition in ICU at last check.
Detectives haven't been able to interview her to get a good description of the suspect.
"That’s very disturbing," said Trinita Semien, a mother who lives nearby. "I can’t believe it’s gotten that dangerous over here."
"It's a shock to me to think that it would happen out here. It's a quiet area, hardly any crime or problems," said Brad Atkin, who lives in the area.
Detectives are asking anyone with info or who may have seen something suspicious in that area Tuesday night or Wednesday morning to call the sheriff’s office at 713-755-6044.
