Expansion project to create hundreds of temporary jobs
BEAUMONT - by Ashley Gaston - A nearly $1 billion expansion will create hundreds of jobs. An energy company is beginning a six year project at the site of the legendary Spindletop oil field in south Beaumont.
Coastal Caverns is spending $900 million on its expansion.
The company will expand at its location off Highland Avenue.
The fracking project will allow Coastal Caverns to drill and inject fluid into the ground at high pressure... in order to fracture rocks and release natural gas.
Coastal Caverns will treat and store the gas then export the propane, ethane and butane.
The expansion project will allow coastal caverns to export three million tons of propane every year.
"It opens a lot of doors for us international market and domestic market Vitol is a trading company in natural resources, so its gives us an avenue to to get material in and out,” said Darrell Hall. Hall is the Plant and Construction Manager at Coastal Caverns.
“I feel confident as we move forward because of our being located on the Gulf; we have the Port and Pipeline. We're going to continue to see other business in the Petro chemical industry in our area,” said Jeff Branick.
