Harris County Sheriff’s deputies say a woman was walking her dog near the Stonegate Villas Apartments in the 11000 block of Grant Road around 7 p.m. when her dog picked up on a scent.
The dog led the owner to a plastic bag along the fence line of the apartments. To her surprise, she found a baby girl wrapped in a plastic Walmart bag. She called 911.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and immediately began caring for the newborn. The umbilical cord was still attached and was clamped off by ems. Paramedics say the baby was miraculously in good condition and is breathing on her own.
She was then transported to Texas Children’s Hospital for observation.
Still, everyone wonders who could have possibly left her alone and in the cold.
Neighbors expressed shock and disbelief.
“That’s just terrible. That’s barbaric,” said Ryan Neeley. “You know that’s something that you would do back in the medieval times or something. It’s barbaric.”
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Crimes against Children Unit is now investigating. Authorities do not believe that the person who dropped off the newborn lives at the apartment complex.
Anyone with information is urged to call the HCSO Crimes against Children Unit at 713-830-3250 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
