HOUSTON - Three people, including two freshmen cadets from Texas A&M, were killed in a head-on collision early Sunday morning on Highway 290 in Waller, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said that at about 3:30 a.m. a 21-year-old female driver driving a white Ford Mustang was traveling the wrong way in the westbound lanes on Hwy. 290 near Binford Road and crashed into the SUV carrying three cadets.
The SUV burst into flames as a result of the collision, deputies said. Two of the cadets, the driver and another passenger sitting in the rear, died at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the SUV has been identified as 18-year-old Amy Pacheco. The other two cadets traveling in the SUV were also 18 years old.
The driver of the Mustang also died at the scene, deputies said.
The second passenger of the SUV was transported in critical condition to a local hospital, deputies said.
Deputies found beer bottles on the Mustang, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.
