Gregg County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Sam Lawson was hospitalized Sunday in critical condition.
Jail records show Ira Lawson was booked Sunday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon-family violence. Online records did not list an attorney for the woman, whose bond was set at $100,000.
Longview police spokeswoman Kristie Brian says the shooting happened late Saturday at the couple's home. Brian had no information about what prompted the argument but said the police have a history of domestic-related calls to the residence.
A handgun has been recovered. Brian had no details on the owner.
Lawson was elected justice of the peace in 1987.
